Golitha Falls, Cornwall

Welcome to our blog on Golitha Falls, Cornwall. Golitha Falls are a series of cascades and falls along the River Fowey on Bodmin Moor. Apparently the best time to visit is after heavy rainfall on the Moors as this makes the falls even more dramatic. However, when we went and there hadn’t been any rainfall recently it was still really pretty and a great walk.

This is the route we walked, around a mile in total but it felt longer!

Where is Golitha Falls

The falls are situated just over a mile west of the village of St Cleer and a little further from the market town of Liskeard. There is a car park half a mile’s walk along the river at Draynes Bridge along with toilets. We found there was plenty of space to park and it was clear what direction we needed to walk to get to the falls.

How accessible are the Falls?

We decided not to take the pushchair for our daughter, and whilst the beginning part of the walk would have been fine with the pushchair it quickly got more rocky. The walk we did wasn’t that long so it was easy for our three year old to join in (although she did end up on her dads shoulders towards the end!)

We hugged the river, admiring the cascades for most of our walk. The girls took a few paddles in the water (I can imagine this spot is heaven in hot weather) and they loved climbing over the stones and rocks to get near the water. It was pretty quiet when we were there and really peaceful, apart from the running water you couldn’t hear anything else.

Where we walked

We could probably have walked further along the river but we decided to divert up the hill (which involved some scrabbling from all of us) to see the falls from a different perspective. We got to a big stone wall and turn right which we knew would head up back in the direction of the car park. Fairly quickly we were back on an official path and heading down a gentle slope. With the help of our phones we knew we were headed in the right direction.

You can follow much longer walks in the area, which can be found here, on the IwalkCornwall website.

It was a lovely way to spend a few hours and I’d love to go back and explore further when the girls are a bit older.
