We recently went to see Shrek the Musical at the New Victoria Theatre in Woking. This enchanting musical adaptation of the famous Shrek film has captured the hearts of audiences worldwide and continues to do so on its UK tour.
The show transports you to the kingdom of Far Far Away, and the audience joins Shrek on his quest to rescue Princess Fiona…with the infallible Donkey by his side. Of course, a lot of other fairytale characters join in along the way including Pinocchio, the three little pigs, Peter Pan, and the Gingerbread Man (who might have been my favourite!)
One of the highlights of Shrek the Musical is the outstanding cast that makes the beloved characters come to life. We were blown away by the high-energy performances, pitch-perfect singing and step-perfect dancing throughout the whole show. We barely blinked.
The set design, as we have grown to expect with big productions like this, was incredible. You feel like you are right there in the middle of the story.
One of the key aspects that make ‘Shrek the Musical’ truly special is its’ unforgettable music. The show features an endless stream of catchy tunes and heartwarming ballads that are sure to leave a lasting impression. Songs like ‘I’m a Believer’ and ‘I know it’s Today’ have you singing along long after the show has ended.
At its core, ‘Shrek the Musical’ is a heartwarming story about acceptance, friendship and the beauty that lies within us all. The journey we go on with Shrek and his friends teaches us that its okay to be different, and true love can be found in the most unexpected places.
Shrek the Musical is a must-see for any theatre lover, and it’s a great introduction to theatre for children. We left the theatre with a bounce in our step, a song in our hearts, and a smile on our faces.
