The Top Reasons City Breaks Are Perfect for Kids

Welcome to our post all about The Top Reasons City Breaks Are Perfect for Kids.

We have always loved City Breaks, long before we had children of our own, and really wanted to continue with them once we had kids.

Below are some of The Top Reasons City Breaks Are Perfect for Kids.

A wide selection of accommodation

This is probably the top thing that excites me about City Breaks. Especially since the rise of Airbnb, there are many options for where to stay with kids.

Some of the best Airbnbs’ we’ve stayed in have been in Cities (some of the worst have been in Cities too, but you can’t win them all!) And if you opt for a hotel, most cities have plenty of affordable options.

Kid friendly museums

One of the best things we’ve discovered since having kids, is that a lot of Cities have great Museum options for kids. We’ve been to so many brilliant children museums. The ones that spring to mind are the Alfie Atkins Museum in Gothenburg and the Children Museum in Portland, Maine. But to be honest, we’ve not been to a bad one yet!

Other museums, often ones that are probably mostly aimed at Adults, have also been great with kids. The FIFA Museum in Zurich, was FANTASTIC. The Football Museum in Manchester was brilliant. We have overwhelmingly had good experiences of going to Museums with kids. And if your City break happens to be in London, then you’re in luck – a lot of the museums in London are free to enter.

Kids friendly activities

We’ve often found a soft play or similar in Cities that we go to, we’re big believers that we should do things specifically for the children on holidays as well as for us. And some soft plays in other countries are AMAZING. The one that jumps to mind was in Zeeland in Holland. It was ridiculously stormy when we went so we were so relieved to find such a good place to hide for a morning.

Our children also really enjoy the hop on hop off sightseeing buses. Mainly because they are usually double decker buses and that is SUPER exciting. Providing we have plenty of snacks and suitable clothing they are more than happy to sit and watch the world go by. This is great for us as we’re huge fans of these sightseeing buses so we’re pleased we can carry on doing them with kids. There’s always somewhere to put the stroller/buggy and on the ones in Dubai they even provided free water!

On our recent visit to Seoul there was even a huge theme park in the City, the biggest in South Korea!

Loads of places to eat

Family-friendly places to eat are always plentiful in Cities. We are usually absolutely spoilt for choice. Much like most parents (I imagine) we tend to steer away from the posh places whilst on holiday with the children (except when we went to Martinhal in Sagres, they do family-friendly posh restaurants – it’s BRILLIANT). But you will have the choice of pretty much any type of food, any cuisine, and any style of restaurants in Cities.

Immersive Cultural Experiences

Cities are melting pots of diverse cultures, making them ideal places to expose children to a world of differences. From street performers and musicians to local markets and festivals, kids can immerse themselves in the vibrancy and diversity of City life. Trying new foods, interacting with people from various backgrounds, and witnessing unique traditions allow children to develop open-mindedness, empathy, and appreciation for different cultures. One of my favourite memories of our travels is the girls strolling hand in hand through the souks of Dubai, a real life education on culture.

It’s easy to get around

Cities are usually well-connected with efficient public transportation systems, making it convenient to explore various attractions without the hassle of long journeys. Kids can experience the thrill of riding subways, trams, buses, and even ferries (the journey is very much part of the experience when you have kids!). Additionally, cities often have well-maintained parks, playgrounds, and pedestrian-friendly areas, offering safe spaces for children to play and unwind.

Some of the most famous sights in the World are in Cities

From the Eiffel Tower, to Big Ben or the Empire State Building, the most awe inspiring sights can often be found in Cities around the World. Kids and adults alike will marvel at seeing these famous places with their own eyes.

It can be a quick visit!

If you live near an airport then getting away to many cities in Europe for a short weekend is really doable.

Despite the rise in airline prices, you still CAN find a bargain for a short break. Just be flexible about where you go, and on what dates (I appreciate school holidays make this challenging!) and you can grab yourself a great deal. We have long found that flying somewhere a bit out of the norm can be the best way to save money.

Conclusion

City breaks provide an exceptional blend of education, adventure, and entertainment, making them a fantastic choice for family trips. So, why not embark on a city adventure with your kids and create lasting memories that will ignite their curiosity, broaden their horizons, and foster a love for exploration?
