Our visit to Polperro, Cornwall
Thank you for coming to read about our visit to Polperro, Cornwall.
We visited during April 2021, shortly after England began to reopen after the third Covid lockdown. What greeted us was a stunning, quintessentially English (or should that be Cornish?) Village, nestled in a beautiful bay with crystal clear waters lapping at its shores.
Parking
Just on the outskirts of Polperro there is a large public car park (The Car Park, Longcoombe Ln, Polperro, Looe PL13 2PL). The walk is around 10/15 minutes into the town from there, easily accessible with a pushchair. In the peak months (but possibly not during Covid) there is a shuttle that takes people into the Village from the Car Park, which would be great for those with reduced mobility.
Polperro Village
Polperro was really quiet when we went, with no foreign tourists and only a handful from the UK. I can imagine it gets a lot busier in the Peak months, particularly outside of Covid. With this in mind I would definitely advise getting their early to get a car parking space and a bit of time to admire the Village without crowds.
We arrived at about 11am and spent about an hour walking around the village, admiring the beautiful white washed houses and shops. There are loads of tiny independent shops that sold some beautiful bits and pieces as well as places to eat or grab a snack at every turn.
Beach
Our daughters were desperate to find somewhere to paddle (as this was our first morning in Cornwall and we’d not been to the beach for a very long time!) so we walked to the small pebble beach that appears at low tide just at the mouth of the harbour and the girls had a wonderful hour running in and out of the water. Whilst Dave watched them I walked up onto the Coastal Path to see the fantastic view back over Polperro and the harbour. I fully recommend you do this if you visit as the view is spectacular.
Food and Drink
Afterwards we headed back down into the Village to find a toilet and somewhere to get a drink. We found the public toilets were closed (I expect that this was due to Covid) but there was a lovely cafe overlooking the harbour that had toilets and a good selection of food and drink.
We had decided to head to the Coddy Shack for lunch but the array of pubs, cafes and restaurants in Polperro looked great and were very tempting. You’d definitely not be short of choice there.
So after a few lovely hours we head back towards the car. We really enjoyed our visit to Polperro, Cornwall and it’s an absolute must see if you’re in South East Cornwall. For more on our time in Cornwall, why not check out our review of our day at Llama Lland?

Oh I love Cornwall! I’ve never been to Polperro but have heard it’s a picturesque fishing village in the area so seeing your photos have definitely validated it! I’d go one day once our kids can appreciate some watersports and us parents can chillax. Will definitely keep your tips in mind.
