Talland Bay, Cornwall

Below is a summary of our visit to the stunning Talland Bay, Cornwall. Situated midway between Polperro and Looe, the secluded Talland Bay is a stunning hidden gem.

What is at Talland Bay

There are two beaches in Talland Bay, we went to the main one, Talland Sands (PL13 2RY). At low tide it has a large expanse of sand and some great rock pools. Couple that with the parking, cafe and toilets and it makes it a great beach to go to with kids.

Check Cornwalls tides here, I found it really helpful as a complete tide novice!

How to get there and where to park

The track down to Talland Bay is thin and winding – so be prepared to meet cars to squeeze past. The Pay and Display car park by the cafe isn’t huge – however we did manage to get a space. I can imagine though in Peak Season it can get very busy, so get there early! Apparently there is further parking on the roadside, and in a free car park at the other beach, by Smugglers Cottage.

Where to eat at Talland Bay

The cafe was doing a roaring business when we were there, and there was a short queue pretty much the whole time. There was some outside seating available but just as easy to grab something and sit on the beach with it.

The Beach

The beach itself is really quite stunning. We were there at low tide there was loads of space to run and explore. The girls were thrilled. We walked down to the waters edge and they spent an hour or so splashing and paddling. It was still too cold for full on swimming in April…but they were soaked by the end (fortunately we had spare clothes :-)). In the Summer months it would be a lovely beach to come and spend the day at. We’d love to go back.

The water was gentle and shallow for ages making it a great safe place for kids to explore. It wasn’t busy and everyone was keeping distance (as per the Covid Rules). It definitely feels like a bit of a hidden treasure and well worth the tiny roads to get to it.
