‘Brilliant Me and my Confidence’ Course

Ad gifted – we were gifted this course in return for an honest review. All opinions are our own.

Role Models kindly asked us if our daughter would like to attend the Brilliant Me and my Confidence Course during our time in lockdown. We jumped at the chance! I knew straight away that having the 90 minutes a day of structure would benefit us all, especially seeing as we were 6 weeks into no school.

How it works

The course is run via Zoom and you are sent the login in details in advance. Role Models have a variety of courses, suitable for a range of different ages. These range from online courses, holiday courses right through to Parent classes. Our daughter is 5 and the course we signed her up to was the ‘Brilliant Me and my Confidence’ Course.

The Course ran Monday to Friday from 10am to 11.30am. There were 3 children on the course in total plus the fantastic teacher. It felt like there was a lovely balance. Enough children for it to feel like a class but also small enough to feel our daughter got a lot of 1-2-1 time.

What was covered in the course?

Each day the children would play a few games such as, ‘Would you rather’ and ‘The sunshines on…’ which involved each child and allowed them all to lead or respond. There was also a story each day, which focused on confidence.

There were print outs for each day (which I was sent in advance) that the children completed. For example, one of these was an ‘Awesome Jar’ where the children were encouraged to write down awesome things that had happened and put them in the jar.

At the end of each course there was a mindfulness exercise which our daughter really enjoyed. These tended to focus on breathing and focusing on relaxing.

After each course we were sent a detailed email explaining exactly what was covered that day. This would be really useful if you weren’t able to sit with your child whilst they did the course. We were also sent a ‘homework’ activity to help bed in the learning.

What did I think of the course?

I thought the course was EXCELLENT. The teacher pitched it perfectly for their age. Even though our daughter was younger than the other children, the teacher subtly acknowledged this and helped her where necessary.

I loved having some structure to our week and I hadn’t realised how much I missed it. It felt like we were giving our daughter a really good learning opportunity, the absolute best classroom experience she could have when not at school.

The also felt like the topics covered are ones that would be harder for me to do at home, and ones I felt that our daughter engaged with better coming from a teacher.

What did our daughter think?

Our daughter loved it. She noticeably grew in confidence throughout the week and each morning she would ask me when her class would start. Her default is to turn to me when asked a question but I noticed that she did this less and less as her confidence grew.

She got to know the children in her class, as well as the teacher. By the end of the week they had a lovely bond.

Conclusion

If you are looking for a great way for your child to learn during lockdown, or school holidays, then this is an excellent idea. I would highly recommend it and may well be back to do some more courses ourselves!
