I Should Be So Lucky the Musical – A Review

Ad – I was given tickets to this musical in return for my review. All opinions are my own. We watched the production at the New Victoria Theatre in Woking.

“I Should Be So Lucky the Musical” is a journey down memory lane, set to the classic tunes of the phenomenal production trio Stock Aitken and Waterman. As a fan of both musical theatre and these pop hits, I found myself completely delighted by this fun-filled production.

The musical follows the story of a young woman named Ella, played by the brilliant Lucie-Mae Sumner, who is jilted at the alter. But with her friends and family by her side decides to go on her luxury honeymoon anyway. What results is a story of friendship, love and bucket loads of drama not to mention Kylie Minogue herself having a cameo via big screen.

From the upbeat “I Should Be So Lucky” to the poignant “Especially for You,” the musical numbers are a gratifying mix of nostalgia and irresistible energy. Songs that I felt I’d not heard for years had me bopping along with a huge grin on my face.

The cast delivers terrific performances across the board, bringing both humour and heart to their characters. A shoutout has to go to the hilarious Giovanni Spano who plays Ash (the best man) who really steals the show with his charismatic and witty delivery.

Visually, the Musical is brilliant, with vibrant set designs and dazzling costumes that transport the audience straight to sun-filled honeymoon. The choreography is slick and fun, perfectly complementing the infectious energy of Stock Aitken and Watermans’ music.

While “I Should Be So Lucky” the Musical offers plenty of lighthearted fun, it also touches on deeper themes of acceptance, forgiveness, and courage. The story blends it all together seamlessly resulting in a fantastic night out for all.

Overall, “I Should Be So Lucky” the Musical is a joyous celebration of this incredible era of music. Whether you’re a die-hard fan of these pop classics or simply looking for a night of feel-good entertainment, this musical is sure to leave you dancing in your seat and toe-tapping along to the timeless tunes long after the show ends.
