Pretty Woman The Musical – A Review
Ad-Gifted. I was given tickets to see the show in return for a review. All opinions are my own.
When I was offered tickets to see Pretty Woman The Musical on my 40th Birthday I didn’t hesitate to accept. A film that I must have watched a 100 times during my teens, I have always wanted to see the stage adaptation. Amber Davies, of Love Island success, plays Vivian spectacularly with vocals that have to be heard to be believed. She captures Vivians quirky personality so brilliantly, and you can’t help but fall in love with her.
Vivian Ward has not had an easy start in life, and the story begins as she is working the streets of LA as as prostitute. Edward, played by Richard Gere in the film and the talented Oliver Savile in the stage show, hires her for a week to be his escort. What follows is a story of discovery, romance and the bringing together of two very different worlds.
Vivian’s friend and guide Kit De Luca has to be mentioned as a stand-out performance. Natalie Paris who plays her is superb, sassy, and lovable.
The score, written by hit musician Bryan Adams and his long term creative partner Jim Vallance is brilliant. Each song, although new to me, had me humming along and tapping my feet. Its the sort of soundtrack I want to continue listening to long after I’ve left the theatre.
The set design puts you right in the heart of Beverly Hills, with glistening palm trees, the opulent Beverly Wilshire Hotel, and the less salubrious downtown area where Kit and Vivian hang out. It is so very clever how, on a touring production, they use such intricate and clever design.
Conclusion:
Pretty Woman is often described as the modern-day Cinderella. A celebration of love, transformation, and the enduring power of fairy tales. I never thought anything could come close to the film version but this really does. It’s a truly fantastic show and one I could see time and time again.
Book your tickets now and step into a world where love and glamour reign supreme.
