Your Kids will love this printable Escape Room!
AD/ We were gifted this experience from Escape-Kits. All opinions are our own.
Escape Games are becoming more and more popular and lots of new and innovative ways to enjoy them appear all the time. Since 2020 we have done a few at home escape rooms from Escape-Kits. This time we tried out the Alice in Wonderland escape kit!
The fun of these kits is that they can be done in your own home, with just your family or for larger groups, on a rainy day, family game night or as an escape room birthday party. The options are endless.
How does it work?
On the Escape-Kits website there is a series of escape room games, divided up according to age so that you know that what you purchase will be suited for the people taking part. Once you’ve made your purchase the Escape Room kit is sent to your email with all the details you need.
Within that email is everything that needs printing, details on how to host the Escape Room, extra ideas to create an atmosphere (outfits, music, food etc) and any additional bits that you might need to know.
Take your time in advance to read all the information and prepare before and it’ll allow you to have the best experience.
What Escape Room did we do?
We did the Key to Wonderland Escape Room this time and the girls were really excited as they know the story of Alice in Wonderland and loved the idea of helping her escape.
Whilst the girls were at school I printed out all the paperwork and cut it out ready to go. I then hid the game pieces all over the house, from the living room to the kitchen, garden and bedrooms! After that, I read through the instructions and checked when the audio would need to be used (you don’t have to use the audio but it adds to the immersive experience and the girls loved it). I also baked some cupcakes to eat when the girls (hopefully) found the giant cake to eat to get bigger again!
This home escape room kit is aimed at 8-11 year olds, however both my 4 and 7 year old daughters followed the clues with me there to point them in the right direction and they really enjoy the series of puzzles they had to complete.
How much do the Escape Rooms at home cost?
This kit cost $19.
What do you need for the printable escape room kits?
A printer and ink
Scissors
Glue or Selotape
Your imagination!
How does an Escape Room at home work?
For the escape rooms at home that we have done I have taken the role of Game Master. This means I read, prepare and print out the Escape Room and any additional things we will need. I then make sure I am familiar with the main games, story, sound effects and audio. Once the puzzle begins I take control of ensuring the children move from clue to clue (giving them a little help on any complex puzzles if needed) and helping them locate the right place for the next clue. Obviously escape rooms are to be completed within a limited time so I make sure to remind them of how much time is left too!
My children love a scavenger hunt and are really keen to run around the house to find the next clue and get fully immersed in the thrill of an escape room.
What other Escape Room kits are there?
We have done The Sleeping Curse escape room which was brilliant. We did it during lockdown when we were all keen to try something new. The whole family took part in that one and it was fun to work together to achieve the ultimate goal of escaping the curse. We have also done the Little Prince’s Journey escape room. We enjoyed it as it was tailored for young children so my 4 year old could lead some of the escape room puzzles. They have all had a different difficulty level and very different puzzles to solve so they all feel fresh and new.
What top tips would we give for an at home escape room?
Escape Rooms at home are brilliant family fun , and with a bit of preparation it is a brilliant activity for everyone to enjoy. Make sure the Games Master is clued up on what the aim of the game is and has everything set up and ready to go. And also set a countdown clock so you don’t forget the time limit!
So what other Escape Room Kits are there to do?
Escape Kits have LOADS of different games to play including:

The Quest for the Magic Diamond – age 6-10
